Rabbi Binah Wing

Rabbi Wing

Rabbi Wing has been the rabbi of Temple Beth-El in Rockford since her ordination in 2002.  She attended rabbinic school at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion where she studied both in Israel and Cincinnati, Ohio.  While in seminary, she served as a student rabbi in McGehee, AR, Marion, OH, New Iberia, LA and had congregational internships in Lombard, IL and St. Louis, MO.  Also while in school, Rabbi Wing met her husband, now Rabbi Shlomo Wing, and the two were married in 2000.  They have two daughters – Lilly and Dana.  In addition to her love of Judaism and Jewish learning, Rabbi Wing values the business background she learned as an undergrad at Indiana University School of Business.  An interesting fact is that, prior to entering rabbinic school, Rabbi Wing worked for 6 years for Hyatt Hotels.

Rabbi Wing has a passion for Jewish learning and teaching and enjoys any opportunity to bring Judaism and Jewish values into the lives of the members of the congregation.  In addition, she has been deeply involved in interfaith work since her arrival in Rockford many years ago.  She has served on the Board of the Rockford Interfaith Council and the Greater Rockford Clergy Association (GRCA).  She served as GRCA President for three years.  She has spoken to hundreds of church and school groups, including visiting lectures at Rock Valley College and Rockford University.  She regularly participates in clergy bridge-building activities.

Within the Jewish community, she served as Treasurer of the Chicago Association of Reform Rabbis and was involved in the leadership of the Midwest Association of Reform Rabbis (MWARR).  Rabbi Wing is also proud to be the first woman rabbi in Rockford’s history.
